Write That Down!

A lot of words written this week......

Way too many for somebody who has other things to do.

But sometimes, depending on what's going on, it can be a tough nut to crack.

The 'stop writing' nut, I mean.

Which might not be such a bad thing, I suppose.

Because if I couldn't write about the stuff that is going on right in front of my eyes, I might start running around screaming, 'Write that down!' .

Which is something that began to happen to the good Docktor Thompson when things started to slide.

In fact, here are just a couple of the phrases that he screamed at one of his later-in-life young assistants, Cheryl Della Pietra, when she worked for him in the early '90's on the terminally doomed 'Polo Is My Life':

“Yesterday the circus meant nothing to me; today it means everything..... Write that down!”

”He gained 25 pounds of pure muscle and 100 pounds of rage..... Write that down!”

Neither of which are anything that special, except, of course, if you like sports-writing turned into back-handed poetry that more often than not actually means nothing at all.

(which I, unfortunately, do)

But then there's this:

“A day without fun is a day that eats sh*t.”
Hunter paused and looked at me like I was an idiot. “Write that down!” he barked.

Which would appear to be a double-shot of both right-side down sportswriter poetry and a smack of truth upside the head worth remembering.

Then again, it also kinda makes you wonder about the darker side of having fun every single day (and night).

But.

Not really.

Why?

Because it's Spring Break!

Bye-bye for now....
