Watercarriers Throw Balloons At Each Other...Shriek...Stomp Feet...

....And Then Kiss And Almost Make Up.

I'm talking about the cat fight between TeeVee felines Mr. Stephen Smart and Mr. Keith Baldrey over the 'exclusive' scoop the latter received from Premier 'Too Scared For Pressers' Clark regarding her (no snap) election announcement last night.

Interestingly, the tussle took place completely within the hand-held 'Universe of the Twitts'....

It started with this....

Baldrey: Premier Christy Clark makes it official: no election this year, and likely not until 2013. On Global Newshour tonite.

Then, when it became clear to the remaining chosen few that they themselves would not be chosen, it moved to this....

Smart: enjoyed cherry-picking what media to use to say no elex. Guess she didn't want another tough scrum like last week.

Ooooohhhhh..... Good one Mr. Smart....Play, the 'I'm so tough she won't dare talk to me' card....Then go to your buddies who, we know, will never be really tough, and most certainly never consistently tough, if they know it will shut them out of the free 'n easy insider access fo' real...

Smart: why communicate with all voters when you can deliver your msg to a select few I guess? Chris Ol… (cont)

Then get really mad and start the fur flying by pretending you would have asked something the other guy didn't....

Smart: serious ?'S for after she gave non elex scoop to 1 tv stn with agreement not to run opposition reax. Voters served?

Now that was interesting....But where would Mr. Smart have gotten this 'agreement' info from I wonder....Regardless, it gets Mr. Baldrey cat scratch fever angry....

Baldrey: Stephen: there was NO agreement not to run opp. reax. That never even came up. That is our decision alone.

Wow! Even better, Mr. Baldrey is so in tune with what the Preem and Friends might want, or not want, that he and his can decide, all on their lonesome, that they don't even want to follow up on their blockbuster 'exclusive' (who came to whom with said 'exclusive', I wonder) with a reaction from the opposition leader Mr. Dix....And, please note who Mr. Baldrey copied on his tweet to Mr. Scott....errrrr....Smart....

And then.... The climb-down/denouementier scratched-up olive branch offered by Mr. Smart....

Smart: totally accept what you're saying. It was a good scoop. My tweet wasn't aimed at you/global, but PCC media strategy.

Gosh, fellows.....

You might want to remember that your little tweet-spats are public. And, as a result, we, the public, can actually see the sunlight shining through those holes in your water-pails.

Regardless their size and/or number.

OK?

I keep waiting for the disclosure notice from CBC preceding Mr. Smart's reporting from Victoria. Shouldn't it be revealed that Mr. Smart's significant other is Chipmunk Cheeks' deputy press person or whatever the position is ? ? ? ?

One would think so Bob.

Personally, it is my opinion that Mr. Smart should be reassigned if only to ensure that there is not, at the very least, a perception of a conflict of interest.

HAHAHAHAHA! Tis to laugh. These media guys are scrambling for the governments Advert revenue and hoping their columns wont get them fired for loss of revenue at their respective employers. Can't prove it but that juicy ad contract that a local group of stations got from the liberals just must have been tied with enough strings to strangle the stations. Why else would an exclusive be given to so few stations? The fix is in and the folks who don't toe the line were given the boot. Oh Christy what next????

Well Burgess, I know CSmith certainly had a legitimate beef with how Mr. Campbell doled out bulk print ads, especially after the '05 election.

To be honest, I'm not sure about the 'lectronic division...Perhaps a sharp reader could fill us in...

Regardless, I think the real issue here is the coziness of 'friendly' insider access..

And Mr. Baldrey loves him some cozy inside access...Heckfire, when it came to David Hahn, v1.0, Mr. Baldrey himself even crowed, in print, about how refreshing it was that Mr. Hahn didn't make him (ie. the reporter) dig, or hunt, or, worst of all, wait...for insider info.

If they just hand the info over, is it really insider info? Or is it yet another piece of propaganda for the media campaign? When you do your job and hunt for info you might find something interesting they didn't want you to find. Real, shocking exclusives instead of the fake, tame ones.

Eggsactly!

And there is also the matter of self-censorship to ensure that you will keep getting the call to carry the water regardless how many inauthenticity holes there are in your bucket.
