The not (not)Premier

Well, well, well.....

The Cons are at it again.

And this time they have decided to ruffle the curtains of the Wizard himself by attempting to peel a strip off the artifice of that which he and his have worked long and hard to package and present to us as both Saviour and Snooki.

What the heckfire am I babbling on about this time?

Well.

Meet......

...Christine Clarke, a 59-year-old Port Moody resident, became the B.C. Conservative Party’s unofficial candidate Thursday for the byelection expected to be held in the spring of 2012 — although she supported the Liberal candidate in the last election.

The B.C. Liberals are charging that Clarke was selected because some voters will confuse her with the premier (born Christina), who was MLA for ridings in the Port Moody area between 1996 and 2005.

Douglas Horne, Liberal MLA for the nearby riding of Coquitlam-Burke Mountain, called Clarke’s selection “trickery.”...

{snippety doo-dah}

...(BC Conservative Party Leader John) Cummins, however, dismissed Horne’s suggestion that Christine Clark was selected for her name.

“Douglas Horne is assuming that somehow Christy Clark would resonate with voters. But Christine Clarke is not a tax-and-spend B.C. Liberal. So for us to select her because of name similarity would be counter-productive.”

Cummins added that Clarke has been active in the Port Moody community and in the federal Conservative party.

In her own defence, Clarke said that it’s “ridiculous” for the B.C. Liberals to suggest that she was chosen for her name.

She added that “a lot of our signage will be emphasizing the party and maybe that will help get around some of the confusion.”

Horne said he fears a repeat of the kind of confusion many believe was created when independent candidate James Green ran in the 2005 Vancouver mayoral election against Vision Vancouver’s Jim Green. Green lost to Sam Sullivan of the Non-Partisan Association by a narrow margin.....

Now that is the kind of 5W reportage that we really dig from Doug Ward in the VSun.

And he even got the Big Green Bus in there, which is ironic in the extreme given that, on the night that all went down way back in 2005, the then suddenly nonPol Ms. Clark (without the 'e') told CKNW listeners that 'You can't steal an election in a democracy'.

Ha!

****

Now, to get real for a second, this wee bit of political flim-flammery suggests at least two things to us:

Number 1: The DeepCons really did have a hand in the political destruction of the best mayor Vancouver never had.*

Number 2: If the DeepCons have been unleashed by Central Command provincially it really does mean that the Wizard and his boys in the bunker are in big, big trouble that no amount of progressive doubling-down can stop, especially if the big money suddenly starts being plunked down elsewhere**.

______
*Which says a lot about that war chest and any and all cash that has fuelled Spam-A-Lot lo these last three years don't you think?
**I wonder if the Wizard and his fair-haired blueman group boy now wish that Horse 1A had one the big stakes race awhile back instead of she who is now rolling double snake-eyes?
