Stopping All Cons....Invoking The Gilliard Doctrine

Boris had an important post up over at The Beaver a couple of days ago.

Essentially, he concluded that the latest from the fine folks from 'Campaign Research', in which the ConShop used vile, morally-bankrupt and anti-democratic tactics to denigrate Liberal MP Irwin Cotler in his own riding, should make it clear to all Dippers and Grits that:

...THEIR firm will call your constituents and tell lies about you. Their Speaker will make impotent noises, or perhaps by that point just openly mock you. Their MPs will sneer and snicker as they ram through more legislation that cripples your capacity to wage election. They will break law and convention everywhere they can get away with it -and that's a rapidly expanding field.

In their minds they're at war with you, me and anyone else remotely objecting to their fanatical misanthropy. They're not going to stop until they have absolute and permanent power, which means using any measure they can to crush their opposition. Us, in other words.
This is what fanatics do.

But you don't have to let them....

****

So.

How to stop them?

Well, I would suggest that the time has come to invoke the Gilliard Doctine, which goes like this:

"There's a tendency for liberals to try and be fair, to consider other viewpoints, so we get baited by them in debates on terms that they set. I'm going to act on the following: I don't care what conservatives think........

(because)

.....I'm not writing to make conservatives happy. I want them to hate my opinions. I'm not interested in debating them.

I want to stop them."

Steve Gilliard, The Greatest Prog-Blogger Of All Time

OK?

_______
Who is this Gilliard fellow, you ask?.....Well.....Here is my best shot at explaining his life and way, way, way too short times....

That Steve Gilliard post from 2005 was amazing, and the most delicious part..

It`s even more relevant today than it was then.

Ross...

Racism comes in many forms and it`s not always black and white as to who`s who.

Thanks a bucket load, I needed that.

Grant--

There was a backstory to that post, which was that, when Gilliard went after one of the earlier GOP versions Herman Cain with fact, reason and reality, people like Goldberg and Lowry and their trolls went after him for being a......

Racist.

And the kicker, of course, was that the reality-challenged had no idea that Gilliard himself was....

Black.

Now.

The thing, amongst many, many other things, that I most admired about Steve Gilliard was that he never fell for this 'our prop is better than their prop' stuff.

Instead, he just called demonstrable falsehoods and pretzel logic what they really were, every single time.

And he asked no quarter when he did so.
