Stealth-Cons....

They're not just for Lotusland anymore.

Richard Brennan and Robert Benzie, following up on the StealthCon pronouncement of Joe Daniel we mentioned last week, have the story in the TorStar.

Here is their lede:

Conservatives running in the federal election have been advised not to attend all-candidates’ meetings or speak to reporters during the campaign, a party source says.

A Conservative insider said Wednesday that most of Stephen Harper’s flag-bearers have “been told no debates and no media.”

The informal edict appears to affect Tory candidates across the country, which explains why so many press interviews are being rebuffed.

“They’re getting pulled out of everything,” the source said, noting even some experienced cabinet ministers are being instructed to avoid candidates’ forums before the Oct. 19 election...

Sheesh.

It's absolutely amazing Ross how anyone can vote for the Harper Cons when they refuse to answer any questions or attend public debates. It was completely shocking that the most incompetent Veteran Affairs Minister got elected last time by refusing to participate in debates. Diana Dilworth tried that tact but fortunately did not get elected in New West Coquitlam.

Its one way of ensuring no one says anything which would upset anyone. of course it is an indication everything is controlled in the Con government by one person. steve and he isn't doing a very good job.

With his gang members under investigation, in jail, on trial, etc. Steve is most likely wise to not have the Con candidates say anything. If the past is any indication the new crop won't be any better. Don't want the voters to find that out.

Steve and his Cons have so much baggage, that if the press actually started asking questions, the whole thing could tank.

We can only hope Canadians have had enough of this type of government, muzzle, muzzle, muzzle. If not they get what they deserve, a corrupt party which instituted laws which decrease our democracy and fredoms and deceased our standing in the world community.

As far as I know, our Con MP John Duncan has never been to my community, nor attended most all-candidates' meetings, not this election, not any election, nor any other time. Yet he's won this riding a number of times when the combined NDP and Green votes would have stopped him.

There's a big Green do here this weekend, which means the rest of the campaign has to be devoted to asking Greens not to split the vote, but, instead, vote strategically, just this once, to get rid of Harper, and to send their donations to the one or two ridings where they have a half a chance. It seems to me Greens risk losing the opportunity to implement pro-rep if they allow the Cons to win again. I fail to see or understand what would be the attraction to a party that would do such a thing. They simply cannot win this riding, nor can they win government---so what's the point?
