The Homeless Problem...What Would Jesus Do?

Somehow, I don't think he would follow through with what the fine folks who help run the Christ Church Cathedral School in Victoria are up to.

The VTC's Jeff Bell has the story.

Here is his lede:

The prospect of having housing for homeless people next door is being opposed by the board of directors at Christ Church Cathedral School, attended by 190 students ages three to 14...

I would suggest their "Christian" faith only cares so far.

The problem is many see the homeless as "sinners" who have continued with their sinful ways. They get what they deserve.

The problem is those "good Christians" don't understand mental illness or addiction issues. those who can afford to send their children to private school can also afford to provide health care for their families when mental health issues crop up.

What would Jesus do? Well first of all, if he came back, he wouldn't recognize the Christian church as anything he started. He'd just sit there in confusion wondering what in hell happened.

NILBY's indeed.

The weird thing is, I know that part of town.

Not as well as I did as a kid when Danny M. and I used to hop on our banana seat bikes with hockey bags slung over our shoulders so that we could scream down a ghost-like Fort Street on our way to hip-checks and cheap ice-time at Memorial Arena in the middle of the night.

But, still, I do kinda/sorta still know that part of town.

And it seems to me, what with all the tents and and temporary shelters and stuff, that supportive housing would actually clean up the area for any and all kids going too and from school (including nearby public schools like Central Middle).
